Gyeon Q² Rim protects wet painted, powder coated, anodized or polished rims from brake dust, tar and grime buildup. This ceramic coating is designed for all metal, chrome, wheels, exhaust tips, and calipers of your vehicle.

The reason why this ceramic coating is especially good for your wheels is because it was designed to withstand high heat and friction. You can put other ceramic coatings on there, but it won’t last nearly as long as the 6 months that Rim is rated for.

The video above walks through the process of deep cleaning your wheels and the coating application process. It’s very DIY friendly, but does take some time. The more time you spend up front prepping and cleaning your wheels, the less time you’ll have to spend on them later after they’re coated.

So, what does this coating mean for your wheels?

It gives them extreme hydrophobic properties, making dirt and grime fall off. There’s way less chance of buildup to occur as this coating doesn’t allow much to stick. It’s so easy to clean your wheels as there’s really no scrubbing involved anymore. Plus, it provides a barrier of protection from corrosion, rust, and scratches.

As a Tesla owner, you have regenerative braking, meaning you don’t need your brakes as much as an ICE car. So, why would you want this? Even though you don’t produce much brake dust, you do get it from other cars on the road, along with tar and other nasty road debris.

When should you apply?

You can coat the inside barrel of your wheels like we do in the video by removing your wheel, or you can simply leave the wheel on and coat the outer rims. It’s personal preference.

But, if you do want to coat the entire wheel or get to your calipers, a good time to apply this coating is when you’re rotating tires, putting new ones on, or switching them out if you have seasonal tires.

Make sure you have jack pads before lifting up your Tesla. This video explains more about them, but they are crucial to make sure you don’t damage your battery.

Pro tip: Loosen the bolts before lifting the wheels, so they don’t just spin in the air as you try to loosen.

Instructions outline

  1. Wash the rim with a degreaser.
  2. Use an iron remover and tar remover while cleaning the surface. If needed, also use clay bar
  3. Shake Q² RIM bottle well. Make sure to use gloves and work in a well ventilated area.
  4. Apply a thick layer with the applicator.
  5. Wipe off immediately after application – about 5 seconds. Split complex-shaped rims in sections.
  6. After application, you can put the wheel back on the car. However, the coat is not fully dry until 24 hours, so don’t drive until then. Store RIM in a dark, dry and cool place.
